Friday Favorites: Fall is Here

Friday Favorites Fall

Happy Friday everyone!

This week has been so much better. I’m finally over being sick, the weather cooled off, and the leaves seemed to change overnight. Fall is officially here, and I’m excited to get out and enjoy it!

Since I haven’t done a Friday Favorites in a few weeks, I thought I’d share some things I’ve been loving online since then:

I’m looking forward to spending the weekend hiking, enjoying the cool weather and changing colors. It’s also football season, so I will hopefully get some time to read more too. There is nothing like getting cozy with a book, am I right?

What are your plans this weekend? How have you been ringing in fall where you live?

Friday Favorites: Happy Birthday Edition!

Friday Favorites Happy Birthday Edition

Me with my little sister, Lisa, way back in the day!

Today is my sister’s birthday! Happy birthday Lisa! Hope you’re having a great day celebrating, and sorry for texting you at 2am in honor of when your birthday really starts (if I remembered to do it…if I forgot, then consider yourself lucky)!

We’re hosting some friends this weekend, so I thought I’d leave with a few links to things I am loving on the internet this week!

Friday Favorites: Happy Birthday Edition!

Sorry the list is so short this week. I was busy getting things ready for our houseguests, and prepping for our Labor Day cookout. Speaking of, should I do cheesecake or apple pie? I can’t decide!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Happy Friday!

Now that I’m feeling renewed and re-inspired to start blogging on a regular basis, it’s time to bring back the Friday Favorites! Here are a few things around the internet I’ve been digging lately:

Well there you go!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I have a feeling this weekend is going to be a rough one. It’s in the 90s here, and I’m battling some allergy issues – and so is D, which makes him a real dream to be around. My plans right now include hiding in the air conditioning, sleeping in, and lots of ice cream to stay cool!

(Finally back to work after a month of moving, unpacking, and lots of allergy meds!)

Friday Favorites

I’m not sure what my plans are for this weekend. Last weekend was a busy one, since my husband basically kicked me out of the house all day Saturday (and for a good chunk for Sunday) so he could work on some writing alone. Hopefully he won’t do that again, but if he does, I guess it’ll be a good excuse to take my laptop somewhere awesome – like the Starbucks Reserve Roastery downtown. Come to think of it, I might have just come up with some plans!

What are you doing this weekend?

As I’m sure you can tell from the photo, I’ll be spending my weekend catching up with the Underwoods. I’ve been a huge fan of the show from the beginning, and hopefully I can restrain myself from watching all the episodes this weekend. Since I won’t get another season for a year (or more), I’ve gotta make this one last! Have a great weekend!

Friday Favorites: Spring is Coming

spring is coming

Taken while out hiking this week! Spring is coming!

Happy Friday!

It has been unseasonably warm around here this week, and it’s been great to go hiking and see things starting to sprout! Sure, it means seasonal allergies are on their way, but so are flowers, and I can’t wait to see some more bright, fun color outside!

Before I head off to do some thrifting, packing, and figure out what we’re having for dinner tonight, I wanted to share what I’ve been enjoying around the internet this week!

  • Man Repeller posed an important question for the fashion and blogging industries alike – is “street style” on its way out? While I agree it’s still around and going strong, it ruins the experience for me when I know who most of the people are. I loved street style because it was about how non-industry (or new to the industry) people were dressing and interpreting trends, but now some of these people have made careers out of being street style gurus…and that kinda ruins it for me. The comment section on this post is just as important to read as the post itself – they started an interesting conversation!
  • If I’m being totally honest, I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately and it sucks – mostly because I really don’t like salads. The Chalkboard Mag is trying to win me over, though, with their article, “10 Salad Recipes That Aren’t Boring.” I might have to give a few of these a try next week, and we’ll see if they converted me to at least tolerating salads!
  • The other struggle I’m facing while eating healthier is that I love baking, but baking means making huge portions of things that are generally not considered healthy (especially when it means a whole cake for only two people). The Pioneer Woman has my back, though, with a “Chocolate Cake in a Mug” recipe that’s the perfect size for when you want to indulge, but not get stuck eating a whole cake by yourself. I’m totally going to give this one a try soon – I’ve been craving something bad, and it’s better if I indulge a little before I go bonkers and try my hand at making a whole cheesecake….
  • I recently bought the Thayer’s Rose Witch Hazel Toner, and the stuff is changing my skin for the better, especially after a sweaty workout! If you’re more into making your own, The Chalkboard Mag has a great recipe for their own post-workout Rose + Witch Hazel Face Wipes. They would make a great gift, or fit perfectly into your gym bag to freshen up after a long workout (or just on a hot day…which I promise are coming back soon).
  • If you’re looking for a good snack for Oscar night, check out Everyday Food’s YouTube video on how to make three amazing (and easy) versions of baked chicken wings. They sound yummy, and perfect for a night of lounging around and watching the show!

Alright, there you have it! I hope everyone has a great weekend, and I’m looking forward to hearing what you’ve been loving online this week, so leave a comment with suggestions of things I should check out!

Friday Favorites: The End…for now

Friday_Favorites_Holidays

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the delay – cleaning the apartment yesterday took longer than I expected. It ended in me taking apart our vacuum cleaner. There was so…much…hair in there.

Anyhoo, here are some links I’ve been enjoying around the internet lately! I think this is my last Friday Favorites of the year, so I better make it count, right?

  • So I guess instead of naming their children after characters in Frozen, parents are naming their children after Instagram filters? I guess all the new Ludwigs will fit in nicely with the Olafs out there? Parents are weird. (Apartment Therapy)
  • I tend to get super lazy about cooking after the holidays, probably because the lead up to Christmas is a flurry of baking and high expectations. Goop offers up their favorite one-pan dinners as a nice solution when we’re all feeling like something comforting and easy. That, and doing less dishes is always a good thing! (Goop)
  • Design Sponge did a travel guide for…strangely enough…Toledo, Ohio! They listed a ton of places that I’ve never been before, and a few that were a huge part of my growing up in the area. If you’re from there, but haven’t visited downtown in a while, check it out – it sounds hipster central, but hey, isn’t everywhere now? (Design Sponge)
  • MODG IS BACK!!!!! This was one of my all-time favorite blogs back in the day, and after a bit of a hiatus, she’s back with even more snark, period humor, and brutal honesty that’s sadly missing from blogging these days. Welcome back!
  • If you’re looking for an elegant, simple no-bake cookie recipe for the holidays, House & Home has you covered. They made a beautiful video tutorial on how to make the most indulgent, decadent holiday treat- buckeyes. Yes, chocolate-dipped peanut butter balls. I laughed my way through it, but I also kinda want one now. (House & Home)

Well there you go! I hope you all have a great weekend! I’m trying my best to avoid the Star Wars mania around here (because I am the asshole out there who doesn’t care), shop for new sneakers, and start on that baking/high expectations marathon I mentioned earlier!

Friday Favorites: Guy Wish List

Last week, I covered what I would put on my wish list this holiday season. This week, I’d like to offer up a couple great ideas for the guys in your life. These are all great suggestions for your significant other, father, brother, grandfather, and any other man in your life who, like the men in my life, are almost impossible to shop for!

Idea #1: A Monthly Subscription Service

There is nothing better than a gift that keeps on giving, right? A subscription can be a great gift you can tailor to your budget and your guy’s interests. These are my two favorite I’ve seen so far:

Dollar Shave Club:

If your guy shaves on a regular basis, Dollar Shave Club would be a great gift! You can customize their subscription to what style razor he uses, how often he shaves, and your budget. My husband never shaves, but if he did, I’d seriously consider this for him!

Saloonbox:

If your guy drinks on a regular basis (just kidding…sort of), consider signing him up for Saloonbox. Each month, they will send him a box containing everything he’ll need to make a signature cocktail – and enough left over to share! I think my husband would love this, since he’s always experimenting with new drinks (but doesn’t like spending a lot for ingredients he may not like or only use once). If it works out well, you can always get yourself one too!

Idea #2: Upgrade His Everyday Favorites

My husband cheaps out on damn near everything, so I often try to find gifts for him that are upgrades of something he’s already worn out, or something he’d never buy for himself. Here are some great ideas for ways to upgrade your guy’s everyday things:

Archer Glengoolie Rocks Glasses

Glengoolie is the name the show Archer uses for their scotch bottles. It’s a bit of an inside joke, and your guy will love these glasses if he watches the show (especially if they come with a Saloonbox subscription too)!

Kiel James Patrick American Summer Shirt

Kiel James Patrick makes amazingly preppy shirts, jewelry, and accessories. These shirts look comfortable, will last forever, and have the added bonus of being made in the USA (a rarity nowadays)! It also comes in 8 other designs, and they even have a scalloped-collar version for ladies, if you get a little jealous…

Scrabble Deluxe Wooden Edition with Rotating Game Board

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t already own Scrabble – but this would be an amazing upgrade
(especially if yours is so old it’s missing pieces)! It’s beautiful enough to keep out all the time, and will encourage some (hopefully) friendly competition!

Oggi Copper Plated Stainless Steel Flask

My husband keeps hinting that he wants a flask, so of course I had to put one on here! I love that this one is copper, and holds 8 ounces – plenty to share, right?

I hope you all have a great weekend, and if you’re not done with your holiday shopping yet, I hope this gave you some great ideas!

Friday Favorites: Thanksgiving Prep

Untitled

Happy Friday!

So I dropped the ball pretty hard this week on posting. Two entries never got posted, but honestly it was for good reasons! One reason is I chose to take advantage of the sun being out to do some hiking and thrifting. The other is our apartment complex doing some kind of “mandatory inspection” today, so I spent Wednesday and Thursday tidying up the place (since they said they need access to every nook and cranny of our apartment…for some unknown reason).

I’m stuck at home all day today waiting on this inspection thing, so hopefully I can get more work done to make up for last week!

Until then, enjoy some other things from the internet I’ve been enjoying over the past couple weeks!

      • Goop shared their annual gift guides with readers – which included an under-$50 list that’s perfect for the office Secret Santa (or your own office), and a list with some wacky ideas that are both affordable (like a $55 home vagina steamer, if you like your vagina…steamy) and not so much (who is going to pay $125,000 for a pair of gold dumbells?).
      • Jon Stewart’s retirement was (rather predictably) short-lived – he’s heading over to HBO! It’s still unclear exactly what he’ll be doing, I’m sure whatever it is we’ll all be glued to our televisions.
      • I was admittedly a little bummed when Alexa Chung’s documentary series with British Vogue ended. Apparently I wasn’t alone because Chung announced she’s going to continue the series. If you’ve ever wondered what working in fashion is really like, check these out!
      • Sourdough is something I’m still a bit intimidated by, but this recipe for Sourdough Everything Pretzels from Joy the Baker might get me to try it out!
      • I’ve been on a bit of a “preppy” kick lately, and I’m looking forward to tearing through True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World this weekend! I couldn’t find a copy of The Official Preppy Handbook through our local library (and they’re pricey online), but the book I got is by the same author, and promises to be a great “update” to the original. I can’t wait to dive into it!

Well, now I’m off to wait on our apartment inspection, and getting ready for what I hope will be a nice, relaxing weekend!

Happy Friday!

This week has been busy, cold, but very pretty outside! I’ve enjoyed getting out for hikes in the fog, taking a zillion photos, and trying to soak in the warm sun as much as possible.

Yesterday, Independent Fashion Bloggers featured one of my recent posts on their weekly round-up of some of the best style blog posts on the web! To continue sharing the love, I wanted to share the list with all of you too! I’m always looking for new inspiration on the fashion front, and this is a great place to start!

So here you go! Enjoy this week’s list of amazing fashionistas, and their (much better than mine) style. Oh, and have a great weekend!
